Very RED, but pretty.

Date:10/21/10
"This color turned out really pretty, but it's so much more red-red (as opposed to red-gold) than I anticipated, and here is what I would recommend to anyone using it:
1) Believe Clairol when they say go for the lighter shade - I have medium to dark brown base color with some salon highlights. I'm curious what would have happened had I gone one shade lighter, say 15 RG. Because my hair (after using 18RG) is VERY DARK brown with LOTS OF RED (like red-red, not red-gold). Which brings me to my second point.
2) If your hair has a natural tendency toward the color red, you should probably stick with the Brown and/or GOLD family, because you're gonna end up with a red hue anyway...I had salon highlights that were supposed to be toned to a 'copper' color, but instead they just looked like highlights and I wanted to put the 'copper' into them, hence why I chose 18RG, i thought 'hey, red-gold probably means copper...right?' But because of my natural tendency to pull red, the R in RG totally overpowered everything else!!!
The good news is, it's still pretty - I've gotten tons of compliments and thankfully it flatters my pale skin, blue eyes and freckles.
If I could do it over, I would start out with a much lighter shade and skip the red right off the bat, I would use 11G Amber Shimmer - because if that didn't give me copper I could always add a little red later :)
Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I was reading reviews for hours before I even went to the store to purchase a color :)"

Thanks so much for posting your review of Natural Instincts Medium Golden Reddish Brown! I’m sorry this shade left your hair with more red tones than you had hoped, but I loved the insights you shared. I agree that starting with a lighter color and one that has golden tones over pure red tones is a great place to start if you want to “test the waters”. Please keep in mind, though, that since Natural Instincts is a demi-permanent color, it doesn’t lighten like permanent colors do. So, while using a shade that is on level or darker than your starting color might leave your hair darker, a lighter shade will not visibly lighten your hair. In your case, a lighter more golden shade would probably look gorgeous on your hair. I hope you give the Amber shimmer a try and love it! Please call one of our color experts at 1-800-CLAIROL (1-800-252-4765), if you would like some help in choosing your shade.

Color not what I expected

Date:09/10/10
"This color is not at all what I expected. I had light/medium brown hair, and instead of my hair turning a golden reddish brown, it turned very, very red. All in all, the color isn't ugly, but it isn't for me. I really wanted a reddish brown, not a red, red, red color. Now I am not really sure how to fix it."

I’m sorry you found the color you received with Natural Instincts Medium Golden Reddish Brown too red for you. If you are looking for golden tones without the red, you might be happier with Medium Golden Brown (Shade 18). We’d like to talk with you to make sure you get the right shade for you. Please call us at 1-800-CLAIROL (1-800-252-4765) for a personal color consultation.

"My perfect color!
For a few years I had been mixing Cinnaberry and Pecan to get the color I wanted, and then Golden Mahogany came along...Way to go Clairol!
Now, everything is so much easier. I get compliments all the time, and I can't even take the credit. Keep it coming!!!

Exactly the colour I've been looking for!

Date:04/03/10
"It's so hard to find an at-home hair colour kit with a good red shade. Most reds turn purple or have some violet tones which I do not like. I love warm coppery reds and it looks the most natural.
This is the only at-home kit I've found so far to achieve that natural golden pretty red colour. It's not so red that it's garish, it's mostly brown on me. In the sunlight, though my hair a really radiant and gorgeous red.
This made my hair soft, shiny, and it looks very natural on me. I love it and will purchase again and again.

"I look like Ariel from the Little Mermaid. This left my hair bright red, stringy, and dry. I am not happy at all and now I have to go buy Color Oops and pray that it works so that my hair doesn't look completely awful like it does now. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT."
